Windsor Lake Automated Outlet Structure

Publication Date:
November, 2010

Applegate Group was retained to design a new outlet for Windsor Lake. The addition of the outlet design allows Windsor Lake to function as an equalizer reservoir for the Greeley No. 2 canal, while providing flood storage for two distinct drainage basins in the Windsor area. The new automated outlet was designed to control irrigation releases up to the decreed canal capacity of 600 cfs, and flood releases up to the 100-yr flood event. The outlet design was completed to incorporate SCADA automation with over-shot Rubicon gates that facilitate the simultaneous measurement and control of irrigation releases from the reservoir. Applegate Group also performed the hydraulic, structural, and stability analysis for the outlet structure.
